Platte Woods United Methodist Church

Scouting at PWUMC

Platte Woods UMC offers a place for many Scouting programs to meet and learn.

Cub Scouts
Cub Scout Pack 314 has been sponsored by Platte Woods Church for more than 35 years. Cub Scouts is a program for boy in grades 1 through 4. Boys participate in age-appropriate programs that teach them life skills while they're having fun. The Cubs participate in the annual Pinewood Derby car race, summer camps, swimming, a bicycle rodeo, an ice cream social and the Blue and Gold Banquet. Cub Scout Pack 314's program consistently earns the yearly Quality Unit Award because of the work by the pack's leadership. Pack 314 needs adults to volunteer time as a guest speaker at a meeting, to help guide the pack's program, be a den leader, or just help a boy who is working on his achievements. It's a great way to help the youth of today be better citizens in the community tomorrow.

Boy Scouts
Platte Woods Church is pleased to have sponsored Troop 314 since 1961. Boy Scouting is a great opportunity for adults as well as boys. Adults are invited to share their skills and interests in order to develop the best possible program for this troop. The troop has over 70 registered Scouts. Adults are needed as merit badge counselors for badges that fall within hobby interests, sports activities or job and career backgrounds. This ministry allows you to make an investment in the youth of our community.

Girl Scouts
Girl Scouting is available for all girls from kindergarten through high school graduation. Girls learn the value of helping others, being a good person and working in a group atmosphere. They also enjoy fun activities such as camping, horseback riding, canoeing and lock-ins, just to name a few.

Today’s Girl Scout has unlimited opportunities. Platte Woods United Methodist Church hosts multiple Girl Scout events and meetings that benefit girls from a variety of schools. There is a troop to suit your interests and schedule. For information about joining a local troop, please contact Susan Skyrme (587-0588). She will help you find a troop so you can begin to share in the scouting experience.
